WNC Farm to Table is a local food hub in Jackson County. Part of the vision is to host events for the whole community, focused on local food and music, while supporting the goal of WNC Farm to Table...
LOCAL FOOD FOR EVERYONE
These events help support WNC Farm to Table, which in turn provides opportunities to support WNC Farm to table projects with The Community Table, Vecinos, 4-H and FFA, just to name a few.
Recently, WNC Farm to Table sponsored food for dinners welcoming back the farmworkers for Vecinos. The FarmSHARE project starts June 5th where we will be providing 50 food boxes to Vecinos weekly, plus we are working out logistics of giving food boxes to Restoration House in Bryson City and to Home Base on WCU's campus.
Last year, we donated over $500 worth of local food to Sylva Shopping Support's Thanksgiving food drive, plus helped with the packing, storage and delivery of the food. We are currently seeking options to provide local food at the food donation spots in Sylva.
The Community Table purchases local food from us, but we would like to have funds to be able to buy from local farmers and producers to give more to The Community Table, and to potentially supplement FarmSHARE, plus help fund the Double Up Food Buck program once we have the capability of accepting EBT cards. We are also seeking to partner with other organizations.
Last year, we were able to purchase lambs the 4-H and FFA Livestock Club after the students raised them and showed them fairs, including Mountain Heritage Day. The lamb you eat at Ilda currently was raised by local students. We look forward to see what the members of the club are raising this year and supporting their efforts wholeheartedly to show the full-circle of the local food system.
